January 2007

This is a shot coming out of our sub-division.  How was your commute this morning?

Snowplow

And the church sign… as of this morning, the bottom line “Pioneer Preschool” is covered with snow…

Fun in the snow…

Katie said “this is COOOOLLLDDDD!!!!”

Hot chocolate, anyone?

Katie and Jeff trekked their way out to the bus stop this morning.  The snow was mid-shin on Katie and over Jeff’s boots.  Next thing I know, they are walking back.  Yep, snow day!  This after we were told yesterday that “Solon schools never have snow days!”  Yeah, well.  That’s what happens when it snows all night and dumps about a foot of fresh snow on top of the 8″ that has accumulated.

Oh, and the temperature this morning – 12 with the windchill at 0.  Yep, 0.

As soon as I figure out how to do pictures, I’ll post ‘em!

I met Katie at the bus this afternoon – a cold wait, by the way!  She greeted me with the following conversation:

K2 – Mom (said in 3 syllables), I was suppose to wear red today!

K1 – Why?

K2 – Mom (same pronunciation), today is the big game, Ohio State

K1 – Oops!

K2 – They’re the buckeyes, Mom!

Yep, she is being quickly enculturated.  Pending the outcome of the game, she’ll be wearing her Ohio State t-shirt – with a turtleneck underneath!

Go Buckeyes!

and Happy New Year!

Our apologies for the lack of updates.  It has been crazy!  In addition to Advent/Christmas stuff, the ongoing unpacking (and painting!) we’ve had two funerals.  It has been nice to have a quiet day today!  My mom and I are practicing the ritual of watching the Rose Parade, Katie is doing Ariel’s hair (a gift from the Bakersfield Davis clan) and Jeff is setting up his office downstairs.

What a mix of emotions we continue to experience.  We know in our heart of hearts that we are where God wants us to be but we continue to miss our Altanta crew.  The arrival of a phone call, email or snail mail brings us great joy as we stay connected to our friends “down South.”  At the same time, the joy of making new connections makes each day a gift.

I promise to be a bit more reflective after a bit of rest.  Until then, peace to each of you…
